PRP Chief awaits union cabinet berth

There is a buzz in the union government that some people are likely to be promoted and some others cut down to size, keeping in mind their performance, in the planned cabinet expansion likely to be persuaded end of this week. Speculations doing the round that the Andhra Mega Star is soon to get a berth in the union cabinet and sources say that it might be an independent State Ministry Charge as Minister for Information and Broadcasting. The leader is anxiously awaiting the call from the high command, adds source.

Earlier Praja Rajyam Party merger with the Congress was planned on certain understandings. The issue consolidated with the PRP having bailed out the Congress in the Andhra Pradesh assembly, during the No-Confidence motion last week.  Had it not been for the PRP, the Congress would have found it difficult to survive in the assembly after 17 of its MLAs voted against the `Kiran  Sarkar’ during the no-confidence motion.

A PRP source said it was agreed during the negotiations that PRP Chief would get the Union cabinet berth while two of the PRP MLAs would get cabinet berths in the `Kiran Sarkar.’ All the sitting MLAs of the PRP, besides an equal number of candidates recommended by Chiranjeevi, particularly those who had lost the last election by a narrow margin, would be given Congress tickets in the next assembly election.

The alliance of Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) with the Congress in view of the forthcoming elections in Uttar Pradesh also leads to another speculation that the RLD chief Ajit Singh might also get a Union berth, as the Civil Aviation Minister. Political critics believe that both the leaders shall be sworn in after the President Pratibha Patil returns to the Capital. This move by the Congress will consolidate its position by getting the Jats vote bank from the UP and Kapus votes from AP.
