Online shopping with fake identities racket busted in Hyd

The scamsters with the advent of technology are going hi-tech to achieve their objective. The intelligent sleuths are also slowly but steadily thwarting these attempts. In a recent case unearthed on Sunday at Hyderabad, police nabbed two persons and are on the lookout for the third. This trio was booked for fraudulently making online transactions with credit cards of other customers. The arrested were V Raju, an unemployed person from BHEL and T Sunil Kumar, a worker in a travel agency at Chandanagar. The third accused, Naveen was absconding.

According to the police the hi-tech modus operandi was first to call the people randomly and collect credit card data of cardholders, their phone numbers and other personal details by posing as agents of banks. After receiving the data, they created a fake email ID in name of the credit card holder and register the same on Ebay. Carefully before making the ID the card holders contact number was changed to their mobile number, by contacting the customer care of the bank by furnishing all details of the actual card holder. Then they made purchases giving fake addresses and own mobile numbers. Once the consignment reaches the city the couriers call the mobile numbers, inturn the cheats used to create false identity cards on the card holders name and collect the goods.

Carefully planned operations were the key for their ongoing crime. Police detective department J Satyanarayana says, the gang also purchased SIMs using these fake identity cards. Police seized two gold coins weighing about 50 grams, one 32'' Sony TV, one Samsung mobile phone, gym equipment and Rs 35,000 in cash. In addition to credit card data, laptop, printer-cum-scanner, fake PAN cards, voter ID cards from the accused.
