Amid total collapse of administrative system in the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh thanks to the on-going all people’s strike for attaining statehood to Telangana, the congress party core committee met in Delhi today and discussed the issue at length over reports that the high command is ready to announce a decision on the vexed Telangana issue.
The meeting gains significance in the wake of the Union Minister and in-charge of congress affairs in AP, Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad’s announcement on Thursday that he would submit his report on Telangana in two days to the high command.
He told the T congress MPs that he had requested the party president Sonia Gandhi to take a quick decision on the Telangana issue. He also informed them that Sonia would finally hold consultations with the UPA partners before announcing the party’s decision on the issue.
The meeting, presided over by party president Sonia Gandhi at her residence, was attended by her political secretary Ahmad Patel, Defense Minister AK Antony and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee.
Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh could not attend the meeting as he was away in the North eastern state of Sikkim to meet the victims of the recent earthquake.
