The Chandrayanagutta MIM Legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi, the younger son of late Sultan Salauddin Owaisi, was critically injured when unidentified gunmen shot at him from close range this morning in Hyderabad.

A profusely bleeding Owaisi was immediately taken to the Owaisi hospital in Santoshnagar and hundreds of his supporters gathered at the hospital after hearing the news resulting in tension in the old city of Hyderabad.

Police said that the gunmen fired at Owaisi when he was on his way in a jeep to attend a program in Chandrayanagutta area of the old city. The gunmen also attacked the other persons in the jeep with swords resulting in injuries to two persons, police said.

The injured were admitted to a private hospital in Malakpet.
