DIY Wishesh DIY lampshade with bottle

Ambient houses are so costly, lots of expensive furniture, lots of expensive accessories to embellish the house. Right? No, absolutely wrong. Beauty is not in expensive accessories but knowing how to make most use of the available resources.

Readers, if you are interested in such "pinteresting" activities that will make your house a better place to live in or just about anything that can be done all by yourself with just little equipment, come back to this column, HotBuzz, on Tuesday for a special column DIY wishesh.

Let us start this column by brightening those dull moments with some ambient light. Here is one interesting way to make a lampshade with literally no special investment.

Here are the things you might need to make the DIY Lampshade:

1) A 5 liter or at least 2 liter mineral water bottle
2) Many plastic spoons, table spoon sized
3) Scissors
4) Pocket Knife
5) Glue
6) A little bit of creativity ;)

Bulb2

How to do it:

  • Take the bottle and cut away the bottom. So, now you have a bottle that with one end open.

  • Check if you can put an incandescent bulb into it with the bottom of the bulb touching the mouth of the bottle.

  • Take the scissors and cut the bottle open on the other end very close to the mouth of the bottle. Get rid of the hard part of the bottle with the screw.

  • Now take the spoons and cut them just below the face of the spoon. Refer the picture to know where to cut them. Essentially you should have the spoon with just a cm or two of the part where you hold the spoon.

  • Make slits that are spaced evenly starting at the top of the bottle. Make one row of slits and push spoon facing down into the slit as in the picture. You can use a quick fix glue like Feviquick to seal it in place later after you make the slits at the right places.

  • Make sure that you don't make a slit too narrow or too big. Using a pocket safety knife will allow you to get the right sized slits.

  • Add the next row such that the row above is slightly overlapping the lower row. This way you can ensure that the leakage of light from gaps is minimal.

  • Continue doing until you add all the rows.

  • You can add a row of spoons and glue them sideways at the mouth for a better finish

And, there you go! A beautiful lampshade created from your own hands in less than a couple of hours at most. Adding multiple colors to the spoons or creating a design with different colors are other creative options you can try out. The basic idea is here, let the creative thoughts flow now!

Leave comments if you have something specific in mind that you want to do at home and we shall make sure that you have a well written tutorial for that. Until then, adios.
