Hyderabad blasts call for higher security in Chennai

High alert was the order in Chennai near Chepauk on the first day of the first test match between India and Australia at MA Chidambaram Stadium after five explosions shook Hyderabad on Thursday. Security at several places in the city like transport hubs and commercial areas was upped.

This is the first time in the history of cricket at Chepauk that X-Ray baggage scanners would be used to keep miscreants at bay. Both the teams have been assigned more security force than planned. Hotels and police stations have been alerted to be vigilant at all times but they have also issued notices to people asking them not to panic. Special teams were assigned to serve at places strategically to intercept the criminals and their activities.

In the bomb explosions in Hyderabad on Thursday evening as many as 22 people died and over 83 have been injured. It is suspected that the Indian Mujhahideen is responsible for the blasts.
