Cameras to catch evil minds in buses

In the wake of series of attacks on women, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has taken up certain steps to ensure women safety on city buses. The officials of BMTC told Bangalore Wishesh that it decided to set up two CCTV cameras on its buses so that they record all the activities going on in the bus.

As a pilot project, 2000 cameras would be installed in 1000 buses. There are totally 6,500 buses of BMTC that shuttle between different parts of the city. Looking at the response for the pilot project, BMTC is likely to install further cameras on remaining buses.

It may be noted that two Bhutanese girls were manhandled by the BMTC crew on Volvo bus. These cameras would enable authorities to put an eagle eye on the crew members. While one camera would be installed in the front, the other would be installed at the back.

The observers said that this move by BMTC would be helpful to put a check to the misbehaviour on buses. Looks like BMTC is becoming a role model to the other public transport corporations.
