Honor Thackeray, adjourn parliament : Shiv Sena leader

To honor late Shiv Sena supremo BalaSaheb Thackeray, a strong appeal to adjourn the parliament for a day been made by an all party meet chaired by Speaker Meira Kumar in New Delhi on Wednesday on the eve of the Winter Session of Parliament. Shiv Sena leader in the Lok Sabha Anant Geete made the formal request to the Speaker after the issue was raised by BJP leader Sushma Swaraj.

NCP chief and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar backed the proposal, sources said. There have been precedents of adjournment of Parliament for the day as a mark of respect to personalities who have not been members of either House.

Reports include that Mr. Geete cited the examples of Kerela CPI(M) veteran EMS Namboodiripad and Jana Sangh chief Deen Dayal Upadhyay in this regard. To honor both of them the parliament was adjourned for a day in the past.
