Is Gujarat a role model state!

Author Bibek Debroy on Gujarat has hogged enough limelight since this book throws focus on not just the history of the state but even on the fortune factors besides the administrative clarity, which proved beneficial to Gujarat. The book tells us how there the economic growth of Gujarat picked up especially since 10th five year plan (2002-07). However, this point plays no big in Gujarat's economic history since the development was more or less the same during eighth five year plan (1992-97).

Gujarat is undoubtedly one of the role model states in the country since 9.8 per cent of factories are in Gujarat. And these companies provide employment to 1.2 million people. Therefore, without industries, the development of Gujarat was not inevitable. This is one state in the country, which has become a destination to many Indian industries. In fact, in terms of educational institutes too, Gujarat since the most sought after Indian Institute of Management is in the capital city, Ahmadabad. Other industries such as bio-technology, petrochemicals and automobiles are no exceptions.  In the recent past too, there was a significant growth in agricultural sector.

Today, a general visit not just to the capital but to any town in Gujarat makes you understand how developed Gujarat is and how forward it is in terms of infrastructure, electricity and water supply. The credit of this development partially goes to the current government too, which has empowered the bureaucracy and decentralized the planning.
