After facing allegations of being involved in the irrigation scam, the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar had offered to resign from power.

He is a member of the Nationalist Congress Party, NCP which is headed by none other than his uncle Sharad Pawar, who is also the Union Agriculture Minister.

NCP and Congress both co-govern Maharashtra. NCP is also a ruling member of the Center's UPA coalition.
