According to the police, Dr Neeraj Jadhav was a student in his first year pursuing a Master in Surgery at the NHL Municipal Medical College and is affiliated to the V S Hospital. He had jumped from the hostel building after the fee hike issue on August 31. The police reported that the student had died today of injuries sustained from the fall.

Family members had said that his son was depressed over the fee hike which was approved by the High Court-appointed Fee Regulatory Committee recently from Rs 2.5 lakh per annum to Rs 4 lakh for all self-finances and private colleges in the state.

However, its implementation has been differed till April next year on the directives of Mayor and municipal health commissioner, a hospital official said.
