Delhi doused in the heaviest rains this monsoon

On Tuesday morning, there were thousands of people who were stranded in the traffic jams with heaviest rainfalls of the monsoon this year. Most parts of the city turned mucky but the Met Department foresees that the city would have to face more rains.

The rainfall recorded at 54.5 m of rain until the morning, 8:30 am. This was the highest rainfall in the city so far this monsoon, according to the Indian Meteorological Department, IMD.

Regarding the forecast, the sky is to remain cloudy generally while it is wise to carry an umbrella and jacket when you go out since there is a likelihood that it would rain today. A few places would experience short bouts of rain while others are expected to have heavy thundershowers.

The temperatures remain generally cool varying in between 31 and 26 degrees. Early morning temperatures were at 27.8 degrees Celsius a degree lower than the average expected this season. The humidity was 100%.

The rains created more havoc than merely cooling down the temperatures as all the roads were mucky. Clogged drains, pot holes here and there, snarls of traffic everywhere had made the situation worse.

Places that were hit the worst were roads near Parliament and the ones that lead to Connaught Place. Vehicles lined up bumper to bumper while in several areas the traffic was literally a gridlock.

A total of 244.4 mm of rain has been recorded in Delhi since monsoon began June-end. The rain deficit is 47 percent. The rains expected before the end of season, speculated to be on 20th September, might not cover the deficit though.
