President Pranab Mukherjee and prime minister Manmohan Singh have greeted Eid Mubarak to the nation on the eve of Eid-Ul-Fitr today, which is being celebrated with religious fervour. The President has said that Eid-Ul-Fitr marks the culmination of fasting period during holy month of Ramzan. He has also said that the festival reminds us our duties towards the poor. Manmohan Singh has said that may Eid strengthen our cultural bonds.  A large number of Muslim brethren in all major towns, cities and remote villages exchanged Eid mubharak and hugged each other.

It has to be mentioned here that Eid is one of the major festivals in the world. Draping in new clothes and exchanging sweets (especially kheer-a special sweet dish) is something special today. After offering morning prayers on Eid-Ul-Fitr, Muslim brethren spend the entire day with the family. The custom of Eedi is something that brings smiles of scores of children as they get money from elders on this day. The more the number of uncles, the more the money. Right from shopping to dining, everything is splendid on this day. Many shops across the country are bustling with people who usually purchase new clothes, bangles, perfumes and dry fruits.

On the eve of Eid-Ul-Fitr, Morning Cable wishes everyone Eid Mubarak!
