How many more years to renovate DRDO?

DRDO's revamp had been touted since long and there is still no significant sign of the remodeling in the Defense Research and Development Organization. It also seems to have the same fate as the Tejas, the light combat aircraft which was expected to be out 30 years.

Making the organization a better R & D center was among the major recommendations which was mentioned by the Rama Rao Committee four years ago but it had not seen the light of the day yet. According to such a remodeling the organization can develop the latest and highly advanced weapons without any overruns of time or cost.

Not just that plan four years ago but another plan in 2010 was also diluted by the RRC. Though the Prime Minister himself addressed the development and the technical research that there is a need for a complete change in the bureaucratic system, nothing has been done to achieve the same.

Today India is a nation that is dependent for more than 60% of the military goods from other countries. Hence there is a need for a drastic makeover in the set up of the organizations and also the participation in the private sector.  But it still seems a distant dream by the time the plans become a reality.
