At least 180 killed in earthquakes in Iran

Massive earthquakes rocked Iran last night, which claimed the lives of at least 180 persons while left scores of people injured. The earthquakes were recorded as 6.4 and 6.3 on the rector scale. It may be noted that the first earthquake occurred at Tebriz area  and another earthquake took place near Tabriz. The sources said the place of the second earthquake was around 50 kilometres from Tabriz. Both these regions come under EastAzerbaijan province.

The officials, who suspected more such strong earthquakes might rock Iran in the next 48 hours, appealed the people to come out of their places and stay outdoors, where there are no buildings. The sources said the death toll is likely to increase. It has to be mentioned here that Iran is located on seismic fault lines, which is more prone to earthquakes.
