At least 20 persons were feared dead and several others injured when the bus on which they were aboard plunged into a pit at Chakrata area in Dehradun on Wednesday. The sources said that 47 persons were on board and the bus was heading to Vikasnagar. They have also said that the accident might have occurred as the bus skidded off the road.

So far 16 dead bodies have been recovered from the spot, added sources. There were at least a dozen of them who were injured and they were rushed to nearby private hospitals. The rescue workers are carrying out their operations for saving the trapped passengers. The exact reason behind the accident is yet to be ascertained.
