BJP has offered unstinting support to P A Sangma in challenging the candidature of Pranab Mukherjee for the presidential office but it has welcomed the victorious Pranab Mukherjee as the President and the First Citizen.

After the campaigning it has tried to disassociate itself from P A Sangma, who has tried to challenge Pranab's candidature in Court. On Wednesday, the party has announced that alll moves and steps taken by P A  Sangma against the President would be his own and are not backed by the party. The party had also said that it has welcomed the opposition's candidate Pranab Mukherjee as the 13th President of India already. The party said, “ If Sangma plans to file a petition against his election, it would be in his individual capacity.”

"As far as BJP and NDA is concerned, post-election, we have welcomed the election of the President of India and we would not like to link this to the party or to the NDA," BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy added.
