NGO hosts a talk show on restricting corporal punishment

Abhaya Abhiyaan, a non-governmental organisation, has made plans for a talk show to be held on July 24th at the S M Joshi Hall starting 5: 30 pm talking about corporal punishment and the juvenile justice act. The talk would mainly concentrate on the amendments that have been proposed to be included in the act.

Abhaya Abhiyaan has been established 6 years ago and has been working hard to ensure that the corporal punishment ends and a non-violent environment in the schools and home are made available for every child. It had been pushing the government to look into the matter and its gravity in the society today apart from creating awareness among the people.
Presently, the NGO aims at creating a fear free learning environment in all the schools of the city. The coordinator of the organization, Swati Bhujbal said that there would soon be amendments that punish the teachers who violate the act. This has been a welcome move to many families and NGOs alike.

She added that at present violence and corporal punishment issued against children is a punishable offense in 32 countries and that they are striving to see India in the list.
