Tit for tat: Outlook tags Obama as 'The Underachiever'

When a magazine targets the leadership of a democratic country, it will obviously receive a similar response as a counter from the country, where "Press," played a pivotal role in the freedom struggle. A tit for tat by Indian magazine over a derogatory title conferred upon by the US magazine on the Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh has now become the topic of the world.

Outlook magazine, which is considered as one of the prestigious magazines of the country, published the photograph of US president Barack Obama with the title "The Underachiever." In fact, this was the same title bestowed on prime minister of India, Manmohan Singh by Time magazine two weeks ago.

The cover page of Outlook's next edition-which will hit stands soon-has smiling Barack Obama with US flag in the background. The title 'The Underachiever' appeared in bold and underneath it contained a few words in ash ink, which stated: "America needed a reboot. He promised hope and change... can his lofty rhetoric carry him home again?"

While the story published by Time magazine may not have major impact on the  general elections 2014 (although decisions taken by UPA  on fuel and essential commodities' price are going to make difference in elections), the story carried out by Outlook magazine will presumably have an impact on presidential election as the presidential election would take place on November 9, 2012.

There are so far no reactions on this story from the political fraternity. Whatever might be the reason, what Outlook did will apparently be welcomed by scores of people in the country as we (the Indians) may criticise and pinpoint at each other for the development of the country but we (the Indians) will no more give scope to other countries to comment on the leadership of the country.
