Big Brother controversy: Probe into racist remarks against Miss India UK

Indian celebrities receiving racial remarks is nothing new in the reality show Big Brother. After Shilpa Shetty, who was subjected to racialism, Miss India UK Deana Uppal faced something similar. Uppal is taking part in the reality TV series Big Brother. On the show, she was addressed, by one of the housemates as, a piece of shit.

Irked with the remarks, more than 1000 viewers filed complaints against the Big Brother show to Britain's television regulator, Ofcom. It may be noted that this derogatory incident happened on June 25 and Ofcom ordered a probe into it after receiving a series of complaints. The person who made the remarks was Conor McIntyre. He was warned because of his aggressive behaviour.

Meanwhile, women rights activists demanded the removal of McIntyre. Channel 5, which airs the show, said it would help Ofcom's broadcasting code and fecilitate a speedy investigation. Earlier, in 2007, Jade Goody made racial remarks against the fellow contestant  Shilpa Shetty.
