7400 more EWS flats to be constructed

The government has planned to construct 7400 more flats for the economically weaker sections (EWS) in Bhalaswa Jahngiripuri area. There are already more than 10,000 which were built for the economically weak in 2008 but have not been occupied already.

The construction of the new flats was approved on Wednesday by the Board of Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement along with the approval for the construction of a community hall.

It has been estimated that the cost of the community hall would be around Rs. 3.75 crore while the flats would cost Rs 357 Crores collectively. Cheif Minister Sheila Dixit, after the meeting, has pressed for the need of quality constructions and appropriate maintenance of the flats.

1400 familes from the slums who are deemed eligible would be alloted the flats in the initial phase. The Chhief Minister is soon to hand over the allotment letters in a function as the allocation would reflect UPA government led by Congress as a whole. Also, the fate of the party could be slightly influence by this act.

A two storyed community hall is also being planned as a part of the approval from the board at block 3, Trilokpuri. This Rs 3.75 crore venture would spread across 637.52 sq mtr. Trans Yamuna Area Development Board would also provide funding to this project.
