Girls come out with flying colours in IIT-JEE 2012

Girls had an upper hand in IIT-JEE 2012 results this year too. There had been a tradition that boys always top the joint entrance examination. Last year girls proved it wrong since girls toppers were more compared to boys. The same is the case this year too. The southern zone contained eight girl students among top twenty candidates and all of them were from Andhra Pradesh.

While Arpit Agarwal from Faridabad topped IIT-JEE by securing 385 marks, Priya Inala topped the girls. Priya Inala hails from Andhra Pradesh and got 21st all India rank. Among top 100 girl students, 31 are from western zone, and 38 from southern zone. As many as 294 girl candidates from Bombay zone were among top 1000 candidates.  Coming to OBC candidates, 4,805 students were qualified and 1,625 were selected based on the common merit list. Nishant Rumandla is the topper in OBC and he has secured 4th all India rank.

All the selected students will have a choice to choose between 15 IITs in the country but that’s based on the merit, availability of seats and reservation.   (Phani)
