Buffalo ramp walk in Haryana

Ramp walk is underway for buffalos at Haryana and the participants have cleared the first round on Tuesday.

Buffalo pageant `Murrah on Ramp’ is on show at the Arjun Stadium in Jind, Haryana. This is the first of its kind organized by the Haryana Animal Husbandry and Dairying department. Onlookers felt that the buffalos would be reluctant to walk the ramp, as music was blared from the microphones, across the stadium. But defying the controversies 52 buffalo participants elegantly walked the 70 ft long 10 ft wide ramp on Tuesday. The buffaloes were bought after oiling of their bodies, with some of them wearing silver ornaments. The best are chosen on the rarity of the bread and its high milk yield

The second part of the event is scheduled for the day, where the 25 shortlisted shall cat walk the ramp as 25,000 farmers watch the event. The event gets its name, from the Murrah breed of buffaloes, popular in Haryana's rural areas for their high milk yield. A department spokesman said that Murrah buffaloes which had won prizes in the exhibitions at the national and international level would take part in the event. Authorities have cautiously planned the event with utmost care as the buffalos are shy animals. They are also known for their erratic behavior in crowds, after getting fightened.(With inputs from internet: AarKay)
