"JanBus" for urban areas - Launched by Ashok Leyland

In New Delhi on Thursday January 5 Heavy vehicle manufacturer Ashok Leyland has launched a low and flat floor bus designed for city usage.

The bus was Launched by Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath at an Auto Expo which took place in New Delhi, The design of the front engine has been done in India which has five doors for comfort of movement and the bus has a seperate provison for luggage.

Well as informing about the features of the bus, Vinod Dasari managing director for Ashok Leyland said that 'Jan Bus' it was one of the world's first single-step bus and was designed keeping in mind the Bus Rapid Transit System.

 

Vinod Dasari managing director for Ashok Leyland said  'The seats on the bus have been mounted on the wall so that it is easier to clean. It is perfect for city use, BRTS and airport application. It also has five doors for the ease of passenger movement,' 

As per Dasari, the bus would be available in both diesel and CNG versions, in Bharat Stage III or IV emission statndards, and in air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned options.

Praising the effort, Kamal Nath said: 'Greatest challenge in urban life is urban mobility. To deal with this problem, it is very important that specific transportation provides the answers.'

The Jan Bus gets air suspension, driver friendly assists and infotainment system to keep the passengers entertained. The Jan Bus gets a 235PS turbo-charged BS4 compliant CNG MPFI engine and an automated manual transmission.

The Stile has been specially developed to address various applications like people carriers in the urban and rural areas, hotel shuttles, taxi services, ambulances, panel vans, courier services, inter-city and intra-city travel. It has a monocoque body construction with sliding doors on both the sides. Ashok Leyland will launch it in both diesel and CNG versions, with a choice of two and four rows of seating.

The Partner is a 6 tonne LCV platform that was launched globally by Nissan Motor Company recently. It gets a 121PS ZD30-DDTI Common Rail Diesel (BS4-compliant) engine. The Partner will be useful for applications like tippers and aluminium containers.

The company also showed the CNG variant of the Dost LCV. While the Stile and Partner platforms are scheduled for launch in mid of calendar year 2013, the Dost CNG will be in the market later this year.

Apart from the 'Jan Bus', the company also launched multi-purpose vehicle Stile which will compete with popular cars like Mahindra Xylo and segment leader Toyota Innova.

As the bus will be available in both CNG and diesel versions and more over this bus has an option in choosing seating of two and three rows.So well apart from that a six-tonne light commercial vehicle was also launched.
