High profile graft case victims face different music Amar out Kani Yeddy inThe courts across India gave different verdicts to high profile personalities held on charges of graft, on Monday. The three people who had faced the bail plea hearing on Monday had results, some sweet and some sour.

In Delhi the Co conspirator, as charge sheeted by the CBI, Ms. Kanimozhi was denied bail, in the CBI court. Ms. Kanimozhi's chances of leaving jail brightened with the CBI not opposing her plea, as the investigation against her was over and charges had been framed. But the DMK leader, in jail since May, still has at least a 10-day wait behind bars. The court of Special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Judge OP Saini reserved its order on Ms. Kanimozhi's bail application till November 3.

In another graft case, the hearing of former Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa's bail plea was on Monday adjourned till October 28, by a Karnataka Court. His counsel had on Friday sought a three-day bail so that Mr. Yeddyurappa could spend Diwali with his family at home. The BJP leader's plea was opposed on the ground that he could influence key witnesses. Earlier, he was arrested and sent to judicial custody by a special Lokayukta (ombudsman) court in two of the five corruptions and illegal land deal cases against him.

Whereas Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh has been lucky enough, taking note of his health condition, the Delhi High Court granted him bail in the case relating to the July 2008 cash-for-vote scam. The high court directed him to deposit a surety of Rs 50 lakh and furnish a bond for a similar amount for being released on bail. The court also asked him not to leave the country without the trial court’s permission.

So it is going to be lights on for Amarji, while Ms. Kanimozhi and Mr. Yeddyurappa have to stay in dark for some more time.
