Former Indian cricket captain, Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, fondly called as Tiger and considered as one of the finest cricket captains of the country, was laid to rest at the family burial ground at his native town Pataudi in Haryana today.

Pataudi, 70, died of a lung ailment at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi on Thursday. He was admitted to the hospital last month and his condition deteriorated rapidly in the last two days.

There were near chaotic scenes at the Pataudi Palace’s sprawling campus as more than 15000 people attended to take a look at the final journey’s proceedings. Police, who were present in large numbers, found it difficult to control the crowd.

Patuaid is the son of Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi, the last ruling Nawab of Bhopal. As his wife and yesteryears Bollywood heroine, Sharmila Tagore watched the proceedings from the huge balcony in silence,   his son Saif Ali Khan, also a Bollywood actor, performed the last rites after offering Friday prayers.

Saif’s actress girlfriend Kareena Kapoor as well as Pataudi’s daughters Soha and Saba, looked lost and distraught during the final rites. Kareena’s elder sister and Bollywood actress Karisma also attended the funeral and was seen consoling Saif.

Several top politicians including the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh condoled the death of Pataudi.
