Parliament to adopt resolution on Anna demands

JandaIn a major development that may help Anna Hazare end his fast, the government has come to an understanding with the opposition to adopt the resolution incorporating the three demands of Team Anna in Parliament with a voice vote.

The positive development took place when Anna Team member Mr Arvind Kejriwal announced at the Ramlila that the government had informed them of the Opposition’s reluctance to vote on the resolution in Parliament on the Lok Pal issue.

The BJP denied that it had conveyed its reluctance to vote on the resolution and took up the matter with the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee. Senior leaders LK Advani, leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and leader of the opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley met Manmohan and Pranab Mukherjee and protested against the false allegation.
Sources said both of them denied having made any such charge against the BJP. Immediately, the BJP has asked the Government to move the resolution and put it to voice vote. The government has also agreed to this proposal.

A resolution was prepared incorporating all the three demands of Anna Hazare, namely a Citizen’s Charter, Lokayukta in States and including lower bureaucracy under Lokpal’s ambit. The resolution will be put to vote first in the Rajya Sabha and then in the Lok Sabha.

The resolution states that the House agrees in principle on these issues. After the resolution is passed, a translated Marathi version will be taken to Hazare with a request to give up his fast.
