Amar Singh questioned by Delhi police

amarsinghRajya Sabha member and former Samajwadi Party leader Mr Amar Singh was today questioned by the Delhi Police for his role in the cash-for-vote scam.

Mr. Singh is facing charges of trying to bribe three BJP MPs during the 2008 trust vote.

Suhail Hindustani and Sanjeev Saxena, who were arrested earlier, revealed to police that Amar Singh was behind the operation to bribe the BJP MPs. Saxena, once a close confident of Amar Singh, had reportedly delivered cash to three BJP MPs to seek their votes in favour of the UPA during the 2008 trust vote.

The arrests and fresh investigations into the cash-for-vote scam followed the Supreme Court’s criticism of the Delhi Police who registered FIR in 2008 but never pursued it.

The police are also likely to question BJP leader L.K. Advani’s former aide Sudheendra Kulkarni in relation to the case.
