Jaya asks army to hand over killer-soldier to police

Jaya LalithaTamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha today asked the army authorities to hand over the soldier who shot dead a 13-yar old boy in Chennai to the state police for initiating necessary action under the law of the land.

Speaking to media persons soon after her arrival at the Delhi airport, Jaya termed the act of the soldier as unpardonable and said the army authorities must hand over the person who fired the shots on the innocent boy to the police.

It might be mentioned that the boy Dilson, a resident of the Indira Gandhi Nagar near the Army quarters in the Island Grounds in Chennai, was shot dead by a soldier three days ago when the minor boy unknowingly trespassed into the prohibitory area. Soon after the incident, the local people protested against the army and demanded action against the person responsible for the killing.

Jaya, who was in Delhi to attend a planning commission meeting, said the chief secretary has already written to the General Officer Commanding to hand over the person to the police for taking necessary action.

Reacting to reports that fiber optic cables were laid illegally from the house of Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran to Sun TV office in Chennai, she said she will get the issue examined and take necessary action when she goes back to Chennai.
