Govt to call all party meet on Lok Pal

ManmohanChidambaramCongress party’s core committee today discussed the proposed draft of the Lok Pal Bill vis-à-vis the demand of the social activist and Gandhian Anna Hazare to bring the office of the Prime Minister under the ambit of the Lok Pal.

The core committee meeting, which was presided over by party president Sonia Gandhi and attended by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Home Minister P. Chidambaram, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Defence Minister AK Antony, finally decided to convene an all party meeting to decide the issue.

Anti corruption crusader Anna Hazare threatened to go on indefinite fast again from August 16 if the Lok Pal Bill is not introduced in Parliament in the monsoon session of Parliament. Hazare has also demanded to bring the office of the PM under the purview of the Lok Pal whereas the government representatives intend to investigate a Prime Minister after his or her term is over.

Though it is clear that the congress party wants to convene an all party meeting on the issue, when the meeting will be convened is not yet known.
