Veteran film maker, Shyam Benegal has bagged Raj Kapoor Award in Life Time Achievement category for his glorious and endless contributions to the Indian Cinema. Raj Kapoor awards were set up by the Maharashtra Government and are given to the legendary film personalities every year.

Raj Kapoor awards for this year were announced by the Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan.

Shyam Benegal is a prolific Indian director and screen play writer who made his entry into reel world with Ankur that was released in 1973. He has so far received 19 National Awards including the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Award. Many of his films were screened at Cannes, Berlin and Moscos film festivals. He is the recipient of Padma Bhushan and honorary D. Litt from University of Calcutta. He is the chairman of academic council of  Whistling Woods International film school.

The other personality from Bollywood who bagged Raj Kapoor award this year is Madhuri Dixit. Be it acting or glamour or dance, Madhuri Dixit was the best choice for any director. It’s no exaggeration to state that Madhuri etched her name in gold letters in the history of Indian Cinema. Starting from Tezaab to Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Madhuri Dixit ruled Bollywood industry over a decade.  (Phani)
