Mumbai police had arrested an US national of Indian origin, Dr Vikram Dravid on Tuesday on rape charges. The 38 year old was accused of raping a 38 year old woman who was already married. She was also a US national belonging to India.

Dravid had finished his studies in a medical course in US and had met the women in 2001 and became friends.

The victim had alleged that Dravid had made her to believe he possessed supernatural powers that coul heal her ailment.

She had claimed that Dravid raped her in May 2008 after she had visited his apartment for treatment. He had sedated her drink and then committed the crime. The complaint was lodged on Sunday.

David has been remanded to police custody till August 10.
