Ezra World Cup 2011 played by the international Polo teams has undoubtedly added colours to the spirit of 150-years celebration, in Kolkatta. International teams from United States of America, Italy, Brazil and Indonesia participated in the event along with two Indian Teams. The Calcutta Polo Club which was celebrating its 150-year old tenure emerged as the winner at the concluding day. It was a good Christmas gift to the century old club. The win was followed by a colourful event which ended the carnival. The home team, Calcutta Polo Club (CPC) led by Col. Tarun Sirohi, won the World Masters Challenge defeating the Rest of the World 5-3 with CPC enjoying a half goal handicap.

Off late Polo has caught up the media glare with celebrities getting into the sports as franchisers. One good example is our own Magadheera, Ram Charan Tej.  But Polo can undoubtedly be considered as one of the oldest team games that the world has witnessed. The swing of mallets and the galloping horses make the sport highly electrifying. Undoubtedly, the former capital of India shares a deep connection with the majestic game as it bonded with it long time back since the days of British Raj.

History states that the game was played even 2500 years ago by ancient Persians and was known as ‘Chaughan’. However, it spread outside the borders of Central Asia and reached countries like India, Japan, China and Tibet. The game surged towards the process of modernization in India and later grew up to become popular in other corners of the world.
