Student of the Year is my shortest film: KJo

Before you even know anything about a movie from Karan Johar, you can definitely guess that there would be a lot of sentiment involved and that you would have to stay glued to your seats for quite some time. Breaking his norms Karan recently said that his newest tale, Student of the Year, would be his shortest film he ever made yet.

But don't expect short to be as short as a Hollywood film; by short we mean a "Indian-ly" short film. This upcoming flick of his would be a little over the two hour mark which are at least 45 mins shorter than his shortest  film yet, My Name Is Khan, starring SRK.

"This is going to be the shortest film of my career. Though I am yet to arrive at the final cut, it should be around 135-140 minutes at maximum," said Johar.

His 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna' is Johar's is his longest  film yet at 215 minutes. 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' was 211 minutes, while 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' was 185 minutes long.

Observing his trend in the movies you can say that there has been a decline in the screen times of the movies lately. His latest was My Name is Khan at 165 minutes and now he says that his newer film would be even shorter. Is KJo trying to go Hollywood style?

The movies he produced earlier had been shorter but he never directed shorter movies. He has now managed to induct the current trend into his own movies with Student of the Year, a source close to the director said.

However the other side of the story being on a shorter duration could be due to a few other factors too. An intelligent move to keep it short and simple with the new stars he had chosen for the script, a story line would feel dragged if it is over 2 hours and finally the commercial aspect of the movie being screened at multiplexes. Shorter time is more money as many shows can be screened.

'Student of the Year', starring newcomers Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Siddharth Malhotra, is set to release on October 19.
