Charan is back with a bang! Literally. High energy levels and slick filmmaking make Toofan a definite addition to your 'to do' list this weekend. Sit back, grab a tub of popcorn and let yourself be pulled into Apoorva Lahkia's take on the journey of ACP Vijay Khanna. Produced by Reliance Entertainment, Toofan is a bilingual film (Zanjeer in Hindi) and a tributary remake of yesteryear's Zanjeer.

Toofan Movie Review

Story

ACP Vijay Khanna, played by Charan, is angry, very angry. Unlike the oil mafia, his honesty puts him apart from the criminals. Determined to get the bottom of any crime, the aggressive cop is constantly transferred because of his principled behavior. That is how he lands in Mumbai from the streets of Hyderabad.

A deputy collector is ruthlessly murdered and Vijay is the cop in charge. Through the investigation, he finds out that the murder is enveloped within the workings of the powerful oil mafia and a rich but corrupted Rudra Pratap Teja, played by Prakash Raj, is the man behind the wheels. Maya, an NRI girl visiting Mumbai for a wedding, is the sole witness to the killing. Vijay takes her help to dig deeper.

As the investigation progresses, Teja tries all he can to get the ACP suspended. Rebellious and angrier than ever, Vijay is on a 'no turning back' mission to destroy Teja and his dark dealings. As the mystery turns into revenge, a crime reporter Jay Dev, played by Tanikella Bharani and Sher Khan, played by Sri Hari, help him along.

Analysis :

 Toofan Movie Review

Do not miss the song that plays while the titles roll. It is a pleasure to watch, much like a James Bond film. Toofan has a lot of energy throughout, never to reduce even for a minute. The film's pace and crisp presentation are its biggest assets. Toofan has drama and action. Sadly, it lacks comedy and masala, which is a staple to Charan's fans.

Simply put, Toofan is not a typical Charan film, though he is perfect as the angry cop. Telugu audiences will miss the romance and comedy that are a huge plus for any film. Still, Toofan sails through. Music, cinematography and editing adds to the proceedings but do not stand out. The song 'Mumbai ke Hero' is, however, very good. Despite not having the same pull as Pawan Kalyan's or Jr NTR's songs online, the song is well presented. Both Charan and Priyanka look hot in it.

Toofan has a strong Bollywood flavor. Apoorva Lakhia has done a commendable job of taking the audiences on the journey of a defiant angry young man. A little more entertainment would have made the Telugu audiences happier.

Performance :

 Toofan Movie Review

Like we said, Charan is perfect as he fluidly portrays the anguish of the honest cop. Surprisingly, the actor has outshined Priyanka in the film. Maya looks sexy and has a few romantic moments with Vijay, but the focus is more on solving the murder.

Prakash Raj has given another marvelous performance. His relationship with Mona, played by Mahie Gill, is particularly raunchy. Sri Hari is good as Sher Khan and his friendship with Vijay could have been shown with more depth. Tanikella Bharani, as we know, is great once again.

Final Word: No comparisons please! Apoorva Lahkia's vision and Charan's action are unique to this version. Toofan is a great debut for Charan in Bollywood. Just like in the movie, he has arrived with a bang. Take a bow ACP!
