Resting Virat Kohli, a right move by Team India? February 03, 2016 15:11

Virat Kohli has been the mainstay of India batting-line up for quite some time now.He has been going through a purple patch with the willow, as he played well in the recently concluded Australia tour. When ICC World T20 is round the corner and is scheduled to take place in India, surprisingly, Kohli was rested for the forthcoming Twenty20 series against neighbors' Sri Lanka. Now the question that is hunting the cricket lovers is, whether Kohli requires a break from cricket? Especially, at a time when Team India has started its preparations for the coveted trophy, scheduled to be held between March-April.Before the world cup begins, three-match series against Sri Lanka is the last chance for Team India to play at home. Even an Asia Cup is also lined-up ahead of the World T20, but that is going to take place in Bangladesh. Now it would be interesting to see, whether Kohli will manage to sustain his top form when he joins the national team, possibly during the Asia Cup or the strategy to rest the best backfires.By Phani Ch

Obama wants 45000 smart bombs to face ISIS February 03, 2016 12:54

The defense officials said that, President Obama wants to step up the US military operation, against ISIS and he needs billions of dollars in additional war funding and thousands of new precision-guided bombs to do it. Defense Secretary Ashton Carter announced the proposed Pentagon budget to be about  $7.5 billion to take on the ISIS, in 2017, a more than 30 percent increase from the amount appropriated for this year. At least $1.8 billion of the war kitty would go towards purchasing 45,000 smart bombs intended to hit terror group targets, across Syria and Iraq. This is the latest sign of the U.S. military’s effort to accelerate the fight against ISIS. It also makes clear that the military campaign, now in its 18th month, will stretch far into the future, despite a string of recent successes by the American-led coalition.Army Lt. Gen. Sean MacFarland, the top U.S. general in Iraq, confidently said that, the recapture of Ramadi by Iraqi forces was a “turning point” in the campaign against ISIS, and that it was only “a matter of time” before coalition forces delivered a crippling blow to the ISIS.  Since August 2014, as per the Defense Department statistics, the Pentagon has conducted more than 9,000 airstrikes against the terror group. Up to December 31st,  the U.S. warplanes have fired bombs and missiles worth $1.3 billion. Overall, coalition airstrikes have destroyed more than 20000 ISIS targets.US officials are still confident that, ISIS can be defeated, with the support from both local fighters in Iraq and Syria and also from international allies. But the analysts opine that, it may be difficult for the local forces, to maintain their momentum in the months ahead. Meanwhile, Pentagon officials continued to grumble, about America’s coalition partners, who they believe are backing the effort in name only.To hedge its bets, the Pentagon has continued to expand its military presence on the ground.  Carter announced in December that, 200 special operations forces  would be deployed by the U.S. to Iraq, to aid with intelligence and apply greater pressure on ISIS. The officials further said that, another 1800 American troops will be on the ground in Iraq by late spring to train and assist Iraqi forces. MacFarland further hinted that, there may soon be more American boots on the ground. “Yes, there is a good potential that we will need additional capabilities, additional forces to provide those capabilities. We’re looking at the right mix,” he said. By Phani Ch

After Puri Jagannath was out of the project, the hunt for the director began for Chiru’s comeback film. Unable to risk, opting young directors, Chiru finalized VV Vinayak, who earlier gave a big blockbuster in the form of Tagore. Coming into the more safe genre, Chiru opted already proven subject, ‘Katthi’, which was a blockbuster in Tamil. While the makers are planning to start the shoot, another big obstacle in the form of Dasari Narayana Rao has come forward. No can deny the fact that, Dasari is in a cold rift with the mega family, except Pawan Kalyan. Several times, the duo, made war-leading statements, but tried to be tight lipped, when asked about the controversies. It was known that recently, Chiru 150 film has led to script controversies. Kapus violence in Tuni: Latest developments February 03, 2016 11:12

The violence caused due to Kapu garjana in Tuni had damaged Rs. 103 crore worth public properties, including railway, police and other government properties. Out of Rs. 103 crore, only Ratnachal express train damage accounted to Rs. 20 crores. 9000 people used to utilize this train services on a regular basis. But all such travelers are now facing severe problems. As of now, the police officials identified 250 people involved in this violence related activities. About 50 cases are filed on all such people, including Kapu organization Chief, Mudhragada Padmanabham.  Not just the public properties, even 15 police officials were also injured. If not for the strategic restraint by police, the issue may have panned out into the potential caste rift,  and could cause law and order issue, across the state.Currently, 144 section is still prevailing in Tuni, suspecting the tragic incidents. Especially, the issue went more viral, after Venkataramana Murthy alias Suribabu, a guy from Kakinada committed suicide yesterday, blaming the government for the failure of inclusion of Kapus in BCs and also for the special status. On the other hand, BCs, who are against the Kapus agitation in Andhra Pradesh, have decided to approach Collectorate tomorrow, conducting a rally.  This move from BCs is creating more tight rift between the castes. It would really be a challenge to take a decision on the issue, balancing both sides of the coins. It should be seen, how the government keeps up its promise, by including Kapus into BCs, without disturbing the benefits, the latter caste get.      By Phani Ch

Gay sex to be legalized! - SC gives a hope February 03, 2016 10:10

The Supreme Court’s decision to refer a bunch of petitions challenging IPC, Section 377, which criminalizes consensual sexual acts of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) adults in private, to a five-judge Constitution Bench has kindled the hope of Mumbai’s LGBT community, which welcomed the move yesterday. Namrata Bajaj, a marketing professional, who is hopeful of a positive outcome, said, “This is definitely a ray of hope that we will get equal rights. We are also tax paying citizens of this country.”LGBT community members are facing several problems for quite some time, like unable to find houses on rent, and discrimination at workplace and general society. If there is any favorable judgment, then it would take the ‘criminal’ tag off homosexuality, Bajaj opined. “At least we won’t be blackmailed and shamed. This is a stepping stone to an open dialogue. At workplaces we are still checked for criminal records. In rural areas, the situation in worse,” Bajaj said.Even gender rights activist, Harish Iyer, whose matrimonial ad for an Iyer groom created a flutter, last year, welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision.“It is a positive step. It gives me hope that we haven’t closed our ears and that we are parallel to science. At least the thought that gay rights are human rights is acknowledged. It takes a lot of courage for anybody to accept they made a mistake and re-look their views and the Supreme Court has done that. This is the first step towards the democratization of sexuality. No one should be pushed to such a point that hope is all they are left with, and we have been pushed to that point,” Iyer said. Iyer said the issue of marriage rights could be considered later. “As of now, we are only speaking of the rights of consenting adults over their bodies.”Saying that the court’s decision as “a progressive step”, Ashok Row Kavi, founder chairman of Humsafar Trust and editor of ‘Bombay Dost’ said, “The very fact that the curative petition has been admitted is a big step forward. With more number of judges, we will have more opinions and the chances of success will be greater. This is the beginning of the fight for LGBT rights. In Mumbai, we have waged a 20-year-long struggle.”Ashok stressed on the need for sex education to dispel the misgivings, surrounding LGBT communities, sexuality and gender.By Phani Ch

Baahubali changed mindset of filmmakers! February 03, 2016 09:48

The magnum opus Baahubali had changed the mindset of the filmmakers in the industry. Here is a quick analysis on it. When star heroes like Pawan Kalyan and Mahesh Babu compete with each other, there is nothing new, as the competition is always there between the heroes, since years. But irrespective of the hero, when the movie appears larger than the actors in it, then certainly, it  tempts many makers in the industry. That is what, Baahubali made.    Prabhas sounded very low, and it is Rajamouli and the Baahubali making, took the film to the international level. That point was noted down by the makers, who are trying for a right break and started concentrating on the similar films, rather than falling behind stars and making star studded commercial entertainers.  Rudramadevi is a historical subject film, made with huge budget. It could even compete with the star hero movies. Gunasekhar, who has been forgotten by Tollywood, bounced back with the success of that movie. Producer Dil Raju, who was impressed with the movie, aimed at making another historical movie called ‘Prathapa Rudrudu’ with Gunasekhar. In the similar lines, even Krishna Vamsi, who is finding tough since few years to get a proper success, opted a female oriented film called Rudraksha. The movie is being made with a huge budget and has the star heroines like Anushka, Samantha in it. If this movie works out, Krishna Vamsi would surely get bounced back, like Gunasekhar. Even Balakrishna is keen on making the sequel of his earlier film Aditya 369, with a huge budget. Even, young hero Manchu Vishnu, is doing the ground work, for a big- budgeted movie. Director Rajamouli recently said that, he is going to make several historical entertainers in the future, with big budget. If this continues to happen, the movie would appear bigger than the stars in it, and that is where, the quality films come out and proves the Tollywood stamina to the world. By Phani Ch

GHMC polls: 45% voting recorded, parties in dilemma! February 03, 2016 09:39

After the formation of the separate state, GHMC elections were held for the first time yesterday. So it has secured huge significance, as it decides the worth of every party in the capital city of the state. Out of the 75 lakh total voters, only 45 percent of the voting was registered in GHMC polls. These votes are going to decide the fate of 1300 candidates in 150 wards.  The polling started at 7am and ended at 5pm. The state election commission also webcast the polling activity, especially of the sensitive areas. More than 25000 police personnel were deployed to ensure peaceful elections. At all the polling stations, basic facilities like drinking water, toilets, ramps for physically challenged people were provided.TRS has secured a hilarious victory in all the elections held, after 2014 general elections and it is confident of getting the similar victory, even in GHMC elections. In fact, Telangana Chief Minister KCR took it as a prestige to win in these elections, as most of the Hyderabadis are from Andhra and hoped that, TRS ruling over the months, would bring him good fate in GHMC elections. If that happens, KCR would be the supreme ruler in the future years too.  In the last GHMC elections, MIM shared power with Congress and ruled GHMC. But this time, they both are separately fighting the election. Even though TRS is politically strong in Telangana state, it is weak in Hyderabad. In fact, in 2014 assembly elections, it failed to make any impact in the city. On the contrary, opposition parties, TDP-BJP combine had won 14 out of 24 assembly seats in Hyderabad, indicating their strong hold. But this time, the case is different. Especially after HCU student, Rohith Vemula had committed suicide, with BJP in the centre of controversy, the issue is expected to show negative influence on TDP-BJP combine. As Rahul Gandhi has backed HCU student constantly, the Congress officials are expecting the positive vibrations for the party. The counting of votes will be taken up on 5th of this month, the day which will decide who rules the richest civic body.By Phani Ch

Kapu: Why did Naidu ignore those from land pooling? February 01, 2016 17:35

Speaking to the media today, Jagan Mohan Reddy said that, Sujana Chowdary, Murali Mohan, Narayana lands were not considered, during the land pooling for the AP proposed capital, Amaravati. Murali Mohan was even in the news recently, after Pawan Kalyan took out his name, in a public meet. Pawan’s comments on Murali Mohan’s land went viral with a few of the TDP officials, but however, as Pawan did not stress about any land of Murali Mohan in the capital region, the issue went silent. But after Jagan took the issue today, stressing that, Murali Mohan has lands in the capital region, but the government did not take it, the issue came into the discussion again. Not just, with Murali Mohan, there were several news in the past, stating that, even Sujana Chowdary and Narayana were away from sacrificing their lands for the AP capital. Leaders like Narayana and Murali Mohan are even part of the land pooling activities. On behalf of the government, they travelled to the villages and inspired the farmers to surrender the lands to the government. However, there is no such valid statement that is proving that the three leaders’ lands are safe. It should be seen, whether any leaders from the government would come forward and respond to the issue. By Phani Ch
