Air pollution and poverty effects child IQ April 30, 2015 17:23

Do you know that kids IQ levels are affected by pollution and poverty? It was proved by the study conducted by the New York researchers at Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children. The research was carried out on 276 mother-child pairs from pregnancy through early childhood. Children of mothers who reported greater material hardship, and were exposed to high levels of PAH during pregnancy scored lower on tests of full scale IQ, perceptual reasoning, and working memory. "The findings support policy interventions to reduce air pollution exposure in urban areas as well as programs to screen women early in pregnancy to identify those in need of psychological or material support," said senior study author Frederica Perera from the Columbia University in the US. PAH are ever-present in the environment from emissions from motor vehicles, oil, and coal-burning for home heating and power generation, tobacco smoke, and other combustion sources. Material hardship is a measure used to assess an individual’s unmet basic needs with regard to food, clothing, and housing.Poverty has been one of the major issue that effects child’s IQ and social behavior.  Lack of providing basic needs will show impact on the child’s behavior. So, parents are advised to satisfy the needs of children. Air pollution is the other cause that effect child’s IQ. To avoid this problem, mother must protect herself and her baby from pollution right from her pregnancy. By Lizitha

“Gabbar”, a dare attempt April 30, 2015 17:10

A shoe we wear today gets out dated in a month. The favourite dress which we liked it while buying may not be liked by ourselves after few days. The reason is, the trend gets updated, so obviously, our minds get updated. Shoes and dresses are minor things where the loss might be in just few hundreds. But what is the condition of the movie when it is a remake of a film which had released 13 years back. “Gabbar is back”, the Akshay Kumar starrer is a remake of Ramana, a super hit flick in 2002. Later the movie was remade as Tagore in Telugu in just an year and so as the trend does not lose in an year, Tagore was a super success again.  But Akshay remaking that film after a gap of 13 years is definitely a dare step. But however, if only the theme of the film is taken and the present trendy screenplay is added to it, there is every chance of hit again. In Ramana and Tagore, the lead actors are seen with neat shave and a classy look. Now in these posters, Akshay is seen in a rough look. Seems to be like director took good care and made the script trendy. The movie is set to release this Friday amidst of high expectations among Akshay fans.  By Phani

US Commission on International Religious Freedom is biased and dishonest April 30, 2015 16:46

A US panel on religious freedom has criticised the BJP-led government on the controversial ‘ghar wapsi’ campaign. The annual report of The US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), is highly critical of Hindu right-wing organisations like the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), which is considered as the ideological mentor of the ruling BJP and the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP). The report, however, noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement in support of religious freedom earlier this year “was a positive development”. “Since the election, religious minority communities have been subject to derogatory comments by politicians linked to the ruling BJP and numerous violent attacks and forced conversions by Hindu nationalist groups, such as RSS and VHP,” the report said. “Moreover, religious minority communities voice concern that high-ranking BJP members protect or provide support to these groups which are involved in the attacks.” There were no forced conversions in the Ghar Wapasi, instead people who were lured or forced to convert has return to their original faith after understanding the hollowness of the converted faith. The report has cited the anti-conversion laws enacted by several states and also the call of BJP chief Amit Shah for a similar law for the entire country. “Based on these concerns, USCIRF again places India on its Tier 2 list of countries, where it has been since 2009”. India’s two other neighbours China and Pakistan are in Tier 1, a category which denotes higher religious intolerance. This proves that the report of the commission does not have any ethics or value towards the truth. The biased report by US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) does not have any legitimacy or honesty in evaluating the issues mentioned in the report. The commission has failed to highlight and suggest that all kind of conversions are to be banned; instead they are concerned about only ‘Ghar Wapasi”. Even when the pseudo secular politicians and media are the Hindu organizations for the attacks on religious establishments, they patiently waited for the investigations to be over. The investigation and apprehending of the accused has proved beyond doubt that any of the Hindutva organizations are not at all involved in the attacks. But these biased media has not shown any courtesy to apologise to the Hindu organizations for false accusations. From the findings of the panel and its conclusions, it is evident that the panel is biased and is in support of evangelization and conversion. This is ridiculous on the part of the commission to slam India where different believers are living peacefully only because of the tolerance and support of the majority community. The laughable statement is the commissions finding of religious tolerance in China and Pakistan, which is known to the entire world. It is disgusting that the commission has not seen what is happening to people who follow a faith other than Islam in Pakistan. By Premji
