Despite having a lot of hullabaloo during the release of maverick Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Ramleela (now ofcourse "Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela") that has evoked scathing criticism for hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus. Detained on the grounds of containing vulgar sex and explicit scenes, the petitioners had requested to change the film’s name as it portrays a very misleading picture of the mythology. Subsequent to a debacle of sorts involving a quasi-legal battle, the film is finally releases on the scheduled date, i.e, 15th November, 2013.

Passing with a U/A certificate from the Censor Board which too had objections to the raunchy scenes, the official press note from Bhansali Productions informed that the film has been passed without any hassles. All rumors regarding the buzz that the film’s release is going to withheld have been put to rest. A popular Bollywood insider tweeted saying that the film is all set to release on the day it was scheduled for.

This is exactly what's expected from a master storyteller like Sanjay Leela Bhansali who with his creative genius takes on a William Shakespeare classic like “Romeo and Juliet”? Due to the reason that The film is an adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet set in Gujarat (India). How-come a masterpiece film like “Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela (not to mind with the title change). Even if we have to agree to the fact that Bhansali's GKRRL isn't novel in thought, on the contrary the cinematic genius director tweaks his script accompanying overpowering passion as well as showcasing it with beautification of Indian set-up. He has undoubtedly made the film one of the best celluloid adaptations of the “guns and roses” tragedy ever. There can be no doubt in the fact that the film neither intends nor attempts to insult, wound otherwise outrage the religion, religious feelings or religious beliefs of any class of citizens of India.

Ram-Leela review

Story :

GKRRL tells us a story accompanying two central characters namely Ram (Ranveer Singh) and Leela (Deepika Padukone) and two conflicting group of families such as Rajadis and Sanadas. Irrespective of the numerous tragedies and bloodied past of the two trigger-loving Gujarati clans, Leela and Ram fall hopelessly in love. During the time the truth gets exposed bullets fly, blood flows and the 'bahus' fall victims to the unfriendliness. In the middle of the bloodbath, Ram and Leela stroke, caress, kiss and cuddle not ashamed while intensifying the heat with every passing frame they share. Bhansali magically used his lead pair's stimulating chemistry to cause to penetrate sexual tension and drive you to take part in their love-hate relationship. Going generally, Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela is Sanjay Leela Bhansali's most commercial work so far with numerous doses of raunch and ras (juice). Whatever it may be, the real question that gets raised here is regarding Ram and Leela possibility to unite in the middle of strong dislike and violent killing.

Analysis :

Ram-Leela

A cinematic genius like Bhansali, has undoubtedly taken an altogether different perspective in taking up a common plot as Romeo-Juliet. Not just that, but redefining the epic love saga with an innovative twirl is indeed worthy of praise. Bhansali caliber in causing to penetrating unnatural elements into every sequence accompanying striking brightness in ever frame. The vigorously energetic elements into his characters and passion and sensuality in his leads is truly psychologically overwhelming. At the same time absolutely expected from Bhansali with his trademark lavish sets and excessively high dance sequences makes it all more glamorous.

A difficult problem for perfection, Bhansali never for once become distracted away from the main plot that’s regarding a story of two conflicting families. During the time Sanjay may be blamed of a slightly easygoing script running two-hours-and-thirty-five-minutes, it's notwithstanding a treat for the eyes. The musical score of the movie is marked by excellence. In succession to an indefinitely long period of time, the audience had a chance to treat their ears to fascinating music. Monty Sharma deserve a big acknowledgment for the exceptionable background score. Other cinematic aspects such as the action, production design, DoP seems to have everything at its best.

Performance :

Ram-Leela-review

It's just spell binding to experience Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone sizzling up the screen in such remarkable manner.

The real-life couple undoubtedly made the perfect reel Romeo-Juliet. Ranveer plays the robust Ram accompanying not easily excited self possession while frequently moving briskly around in a well-shaped body at the same time frequently breaking into killer dance moves. Ranveer's transition from a charming guy to a desperate lover is overwhelming

Coming to Deepika, this is undoubtedly a fascinating year for her. She gets into prominence with another excellence through the mischievous Leela who willingly loses her heart to her enemy and stays true to her love even when circumstances change.

A statement of praise is to be intended towards the supporting cast of the film for adding depth and more colors into the script. Supriya Pathak, in her menacing act as Sanada community's Godmother, Dhankore seems to be remarkable. Homi Wadia, Gulshan Daviah, Richa Chadda, Abhimanyu Singh, Sharad Kelkar, Barkha Bist and Raza Murad are first-rate in their respective acts. Towards the concluding phase not to miss out mentioning the firework item track by Priyanka Chopra makes it sparkle like gold.

Final Word:Amongst several reasons intending to watch the film, one bright reason needs to be prominently expressed that's about the stimulating chemistry between Ranveer and Deepika. The beautiful drama accompanying the spellbinding musical score, the action-packed narrative as well as Sanjay Leela Bhansali's brilliant justification of the script. The film is a real treat for appreciation of artistry.

A must-watch for all who appreciates excellence of art! The film deserves a 4 star.
