Veteran Bollywood Actor Passes Away At The Age Of 70

Veteran Bollywood actor and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament from Gurudaspur district of Punjab, Vinod Khanna passed away today in Mumbai at the age of 70.

According to reports, the original heartthrob of Hindi films, had been admitted at Sir H.N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre in Charni Road. He was reportedly battling with cancer for years. In April first week, his condition had considerably deteriorated due to dehydration. He remained admitted at HN Reliance Hospital for almost a a month. Hospital authorities claimed his condition had become stable in between after doctors put him on drip although he had become frail during hospitalization. He was brought to the Girgaum based hospital in March end.

The hospital released the statement, “Veteran actor and Member of Parliament Mr. Vinod Khanna, who was admitted to the Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital breathed his last at 11.20 am due to advanced bladder carcinoma.” Vinod is survived by his wife Kavita Khanna, sons Rahul, Akshaye and Sakshi, and daughter Shraddha Khanna. Before marrying Kavita, Vinod Khanna was married to Geetanjali but they later got divorced.

Recently, one of his photographs was also viral, in which he looked very weak. This had shocked his fans and many in the film fraternity.

The actor debuted in 1968 with “Man Ka Meet” and was best remembered for his performance in films like “Mere Apne”, “Mera Gaon Mera Desh”, “Imitihaan”, “Inkaar”, “Amar Akbar Anthony”, “Lahu ke Do Rang”, “Qurbani”, “Dayavaan” and “Jurm”. He went on to win numerous awards, including the Filmfare award for best supporting actor for Haath ki Safaai and the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999. In 1982, at the peak of his film career, Khanna decided to quit the film industry briefly to follow his spiritual guru Osho Rajneesh. After a five-year break from work, he returned to the Hindi film industry to give hit films, Insaaf and Satyamev Jayate. Even with a busy career in politics, Vinod did not give up on Bollywood and worked in some of the latest films like Dabangg, Players, Dabangg 2 and Dilwale, and received a lot of love for his work.

Vinod Khanna, was born on 6 October, 1946. He was seen in 141 films between 1968 and 2013. Khanna joined politics in the year 1997, also becoming the Union Minister of External Affairs during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government. His sons Akshay Khanna and Rahul Khanna have also had prominent Bollywood careers, while his youngest son, Sakshi Khanna is on the brink of his Bollywood debut.
