Tollywood Megastar, Chiranjeevi yesterday, met and congratulated veteran filmmaker K. Viswanath, who is populary known as Kalatapasvi,  for being conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke award, the country’s highest award in cinema.

Megastar had worked with the veteran film maker in three Telugu films, “Subhalekha”, “Swayam Krushi” and “Apadbandhavudu.” A source close to Chiranjeevi quoted as saying, “Chiranjeevi Sir was very happy when he learnt about this rare honour to Viswanath. He met him today and congratulated him. They spent close to an hour talking.”

Chiranjeevi for his performance in “Subhaleka”, which raised pertinent questions about dowry system, won the Best Actor Filmfare Award. Winner of multiple National Awards, Viswanath has directed 50 films, known for their strong content, endearing narrative, honest handling and cultural authenticity.

Viswanath’s National award winning drama “Swati Mutyam” (The White Pearl) was India’s official entry to the Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Film category in 1987. Chiru said that the Dada Saheb Phalke Award gained more respect after being conferred to K. Viswanath.
