Efforts for a 'Fit For The Role'

There were times when a role in a movie was taken too seriously by the actors.  When the Telugu movies were made in Chennai (Madras at that time) Akkineni Nageswara Rao was very young and he was to act with a trunk in a scene.  When it was found that an old trunk was not kept in the sets by the persons concerned, Akkineni was said to have cycled home to get a trunk for the purpose of making the scene complete.

The trend has come back again with the actors making efforts to become fit for the role they are going to take In a movie.  It may be growing a beard, tonsuring, getting a muscular body, putting on weight or losing it.

Actors like Ameer Khan, Abhishek Bachchan did it in the past.  Ameer Khan got a six pack muscular body for the movie ‘Ghajani’.  Abhishek and Ishwarya put on weight for ‘Guru’.  Jr.NTR lost weight for ‘Yamadonga’ and now Vikram is seen lost as much as 25 kilos of weight for a big budget film of director Shankar.  Anushka lost 15 kilos for ‘Rani Rudrama Devi’

Only difference is in the olden days an effort to become fit for role was made for the sake of art they loved and now it is for the sake of a big money involved in movie making.
