Facebook Rolls Out Face Recognition for its Users

Facebook Rolls Out Face Recognition for its Users:- Social networking giant Facebook rolled out face recognition technology to all its users with an option to opt-out of it, the company said on Tuesday. Facebook also revealed that they discontinued the feature 'Tag Suggestions'. The old feature allowed the users to suggest their friends tag them in their pictures that are uploaded through the social networking platform. Now the face recognition feature will allow Facebook users to check if their profile pictures are used by someone else.

All those who activate face recognition feature will have tag suggestions generated automatically. This feature has been at the centre of a privacy-related lawsuit since 2015. The lawsuit by Illinois users accused the company of violating the state’s Biometric Information Privacy Act, claiming it illegally collected and stored biometric data of lakhs of users. Last month, the federal appeals court rejected to undo the class-action status.
