MSD voices his support to Unmukt Chand

Unmukt Chand has risen to be the youngster sensation in the cricketing field after he along with his team had fought Australia succesfully in the Under 19 world cup and brought back the trophy to Inida. However, his enthusiasm was soon watered down after he was no permitted to attend for his BA examinations of first year in St Stephens college. The College stated that the denial was not a point of support of sports or cricketing stars in particular but an issue of rules.

The college argued that regardless of who he was he would be treated equal to all others and would have to have a 33.33% attendance at least to attend the exams. A condonation should be sought from the Chairman in case of a special permission to write his exams.

The 19-year old lad had found himself in trouble but was not left alone. Team India's skipper, Mahendra Singh Dhoni had got his back supporting him

In his latest tweet MSD said, "Marks for sports takes back seat attendance for now takes centrestage. This shows how much importance sports has in INDIA. Sad to hear," on his page of the popular microblogging site.

Talking to a popular news channel, Unmukt Chand said ,"I think it's really important for the institution to promote sports and those specially who are sports people should be allowed to sit for the exams or should be helped by their teachers and attendance is a very important part because sports people, they have to go for their competitions and everything so that's why they won't be coming to school or colleges regularly. Definitely, Dhoni's support will help because he's a big guy, and obviously an influential guy and if he says that then he definitely means it I also feel that if schools and colleges do support sports people and probably their interests also increase in studying and they'll would also want to study more".

Unmukt Chand had become a star with performance of 111 not out in the final knock of the U-19 World Cup against Australia and had been a crucial batsman who could wind the trophy back to India. On his return to his academics he was denied taking the second semester exams on grounds of a low attendance.
