Monday updates, London Olympics 2012

On Monday it was pretty good  at the London Olympics 2012, while India signs into the medals tally with a Bronze by  Gagan Narang in the men's 10m air rifle event. There were satisfactions, rejoice and remorse all around in the air at the event venues. Many made a mark in history while many more remained mere participants at the historic game. Many move forward while many are supposed to their mother land. Let's have a quick look at the prospects of the third game.

US: Matt Grevers of the United States set an Olympic record to win the men's 100-meter backstroke at the London Olympics on Monday.

China: The Chinese Gymnastics team won their second straight Olympic title and third in four games. Their score of 275.997 points was more than four points better than Japan.China`s Li Xueying won women's weightlifting gold in the 58kg category Monday, setting two Olympic records.

Lithuania: Fifteen-year-old Ruta Meilutyte of Lithuania won the 100-meter breaststroke swimming event at the games. Meilutyte finished in 1 minute, 5.47 seconds to hold off a late charge from world champion Rebecca Soni of the United States, who touched second in 1:05.55.

Good-Average-Worse of Team India: Badminton brings cheers to the nation. Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa beat Wen Hsing Cheng and Yu Chin Chien of Chinese Taipei 25-23, 16-21, 21-18 to register their first win in the group stages. Saina Nehwal cruised into the knockout stage of the women singles competition after notching up a comfortable straight-game win over Belgium's Lianne Tan in a group stage match. Saina Nehwal, Swaran Singh and Jai Bhagwan rekindled hopes in the Indian fans.

In tennis both the pairs advance further. Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna began India's Olympic doubles campaign with a win as they defeated Max Mirnyi and Alexander Bury of Belarus 7-6, 6-7, 8-6. And Leander Paes and Vishnu Vardhan defeated Dutch team of Robin Haase and Jean-Julien Rojer 7-6, 4-6, 6-2 to reach round 2


Bombayla Devi bows out of women’s individual archery event, after her lose to Aida Roman of Mexico. The Indian hockey team went down 2-3 against the Netherlands in their opening match in group B of the London Olympics at the Riverbank Arena. In tennis singles for men, Vishnu Vardhan lost to Blaz Kavcic of Slovenia in straight sets 6-3, 6-2.

Indians Gagan Narang gets the country's first medal in the Summer Games 2012. Narang claims a Bronze medal in the men's 10m air rifle event.
