62 Indians in one way trip to Mars

62 Indian have been shortlisted for one way trip to Mars planet in 2024 to establish a permanent colony there. From a pool of over 2 laks applications from 140 countries, the Netherlands based non-profit organization Mars One has selected 1058 candidates for the trip to red planet. Mars One mission is to establish a permanent human colony there and a batch of four members will depart to the red planet every two years starting from the year 2024.

Among the 1058 candidates, 297 belong to US, 75 from Canada, 62 from India and 52 from Japan. All the selected candidates have been intimated via emails. Mars One co-founder Ban Lansdorp expressed his pleasure with overwhelming response to Mars trip. He also assured candidates who have been declined an opportunity can reapply in 2014 and 215 for the second and third phase of selections.
