Up close with Google Data centers

Google recently took off the virtual curtains that shielded the Google Data Centers which were hitherto kept secret. It has opened a virtual window that allows you to view the details inside the data centers where there are several wires, servers, computers and much more racked up powering a significant part of the world wide web. What you get to see in the pictures is the power that runs and processes your search engine results, YouTube videos, and the center that distributes your email across the world in seconds.

The unveiling was silent with the pictures being uploaded at http://www.google.com/about/datacenters/gallery/#/. The site shows you pictures of the datacenters in US, Finland and Belgium. Google is also building data centers in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Chile.

That is not all. You get to stroll inside the North Carolina data center facility with the Street View service in Google Maps. Enthrall yourself with the first person views inside the facility.

This new access to the secrets of Google coincides with the a new article, being published by a Wired magazine which details about the procedures of building and operation of the data centers, as written by Steven Levy, the man who was praised by Google for his work, In the Plex.

Though the data centers are the brain of company, not even a single one is present at the headquarters of the the search engine giant in Mountain View California.
