Three things to know before waxing

Summertime calls for sleeveless dresses, bikinis, tank tops, shorts and everything fashionable and summery. This means, smooth, hairless arms, legs and pits for women. But before you put the wax on your skin, consider these do's and don'ts to ensure that you aren't left with a nasty infection or sketchy skin during this time of the year. Read on to know what you can do to practice safe waxing always.

  • Waxing at home is any day a better option than doing the same at salon as there is smaller risk of infection involved when the process is done at home. But try it at home only if you know to wax well. For those up for it, begin by washing your hands squeaky clean. Sanitize the tool- kit with some alcohol to minimize risks of infection. Throw away everything that is disposable.

  • If opting for salon, ensure that you research the place well before you make a move. Check out the reviews at various sites and forums beforehand. Also, if at salon, you may ask your esthetician to change the sheets, use fresh towels and wash hands before starting.

  • Skip the scrub or any drying products before you go for wax. Products containing retinol and other such exfoliating ingredients will make your skin more sensitive and prone to burning. So avoid.

  • Don't go for waxing during or a week prior to your periods as that time your body is more sensitive to pain. It's best to plan a wax within the first two weeks of your cycle.
