Rare flatworm with 60 eyes

An official from Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire has found a rare 12mm flatworm, which has 60 eyes crammed into its body. This is the first ever rare discovery that made Mr. Brian Eversham famous. The scientists, who have later examined this rare flatworm, have told that this belonged to antipodean descent and consists of as many as 60 eyes. It was also said to be a close relative of a unique species—Kontikia Andersoni, which is found in Northern Ireland.

The present worm in news with 60 eyes, which was not named so far, was found in grass at Cambridge. It was considered as totally new and undescribed species by a noted biologist, Dr Hugh Jones. He has also said that he had, however, seen another rare species in his career and the present discovery happened to be his second such event wherein he saw a rarest of the rare.

When asked as to what made Brian Eversham discover this worm and questioned whether he was on a mission to find a rare species or found it accidentally, Eversham said he was clicking some photographs on wildlife on one fine Sunday. And he happened to have a glimpse of this rare worm through his camera lens. (AW Phani)
