Students attempt to besiege secretariat

A large number of students today tried to lay siege to the Andhra Pradesh secretariat in Hyderabad in a move to press the government in support of their demand. The students demanded that the state government should withdraw its proposal to change the current fee reimbursement scheme. When the students allegedly tried to barge into the secretariat, the police personnel-who were deployed at the secretariat-have obstructed and arrested them.
It may be noted that state government has been drawing huge criticism from political leaders and students after it announced that students, who secure 50 per cent of marks only, would be entitled to the fee reimbursement hereafter. Noted politician, Jaya Prakash Naryana too earlier urged the state government not to go ahead with the proposed reimbursement policy and said it was the duty of the government to ensure eligible candidates don't lose an opportunity to get educated.
