The Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) employees in Hyderabad have celebrated the International Workers’ Day (also known as May Day) at their office in the city. The employees have hoisted the red flag at LIC Bhavan.
The employees who gathered to speak about the rights and policies of employees have said passed a resolution to come together in their fight against the anti-labour policies being adopted by the State and Central governments. Also, several other employees have also observed May Day.
It may be noted here that the International Workers’ Day that falls on May 1 every year is a celebration of international labour movement. On May Day, large numbers of workers from all industries come together and stage demonstrations and rallies in support of employee rights.
It has to be mentioned here that May 1 is a national holiday in over 80 countries. In Asia, 24 countries including Japan, Russia, China and India declared May 1 as a public holiday. (Phani)
