What is intestinal ischemia?
Intestinal ischemia is a damage done to a part of intestine due to low blood supply. There are several causes for intestinal ischemia. Some of them include embolus (a blood clot that travels from heart and block one of the arteries that supply blood to intestine), venous thrombosis (blood clots in veins), low blood pressure.
The main symptoms of intestinal ischemia include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, frequent fever, pain in the abdomen, urgent need to pass stool and abdominal tenderness.
The doctors often say that people think abdominal pain as gastric problem and take their own medicine. It’s always better to consult the doctor as soon as possible if you have any of the symptoms. (Phani)
